Pop Culture Critique

Critiques of pop culture come in a variety of forms, ranging from rhetorical analyses of specific artifacts (like commercials or song lyrics) to analyses of trends and themes to remixes that use clips from pop culture to “speak back” to the way pop culture reinforces gender norms and stereotypes.

Social Commentary

From the Wikipedia entry: “Social commentary is the act of using rhetorical means to provide commentary on issues in a society. This is often done with the idea of implementing or promoting change by informing the general populace about a given problem and appealing to people’s sense of justice. Social commentary can be practiced through all forms of communication, from printed form, to conversations to computerized communication.”

Public Service Announcement (PSA)

A PSA is typically a 30-60 second commercial that attempts to raise public awareness about an issue by appealing to audiences on an emotional level.
