IMPORTANT NOTE:
These instructions apply to an older version of WordPress. I’m leaving them here in case they’re of use to anyone who’s still using the older version.
I tend to keep my class blogs updated, so students in my Fall 2013 section and beyond should FOLLOW THESE STEPS INSTEAD: How to embed an mp3 audio file into a blog post
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
To embed an audio file in a post or page on our class blogs, the audio file MUST be in mp3 format, meaning that the file name must end in .mp3 (which should’ve been put there by the audio editing app, not tacked on later).
The method below shows you how to use a special WordPress short code to create a playable version of an mp3 file. For all other audio file types, simply attach the file like you would a PDF.
(1) Use the “add audio” button to upload the file from your computer.
(2) Follow the steps shown on the screenshot below to create a hyperlink to the attached file.
The reason for clicking on the File URL button is to make sure you copy the right URL. The reason for copying the file URL will become apparent in the next step.
(3) Skip a line or two below the hyperlink you just created and type the short code shown in the screenshot below to create the audio player. This is where you’ll paste the file URL you copied in the previous step.
(4) Publish or update your post and take a look to make sure the file is available as both a hyperlink and a playable audio file.
NOTE: This method will also work with mp3 files that exist on other web sites. Skip the first three steps and just wrap the audio short code around the mp3′s URL.
