The instructions below are for students whose class blogs are hosted on WordPress.com
(Students in Amy’s classes should view the handouts under Using Custom WordPress instead.)
(1) Go to WordPress.com and sign up for an account. Be sure to select the option to create a username only, not a new blog.
The screencast on this page walks you through the process: How to sign up for a WordPress.com account
(2) Check your email for a message from WordPress.com that asks you to confirm your request to set up an account. Follow the link in that email to complete the process of creating your new account.
(3) Check your email again for another message from WordPress.com, this one confirming that your account was successfully created. Forward that message to your instructor so that he or she can use the information to invite you to join the class blog. (Or you can email your instructor the WordPress.com username you created.)
(4) Check your email a third time, this time looking for a message from your class blog that includes an invitation to join the blog. It’ll look something like this:
Follow the link to accept the invitation. If you’re not already logged into your WordPress.com account, you’ll be prompted to do that first.
You’ll know the process was successful if you’re taken to the Dashboard of your class blog, which is the “back end” area where you can add and edit posts, change your profile settings, and so on. If you do not see the Dashboard, something went wrong somewhere along the way, so you might want to review the steps above or contact your instructor.
