STUDENT SAMPLE – It's Okay to be Like Dad… and Bake!

Eunice, a Fall 2014 student, made this comic to illustrate how we learn gender roles.

Student’s Commentary

This comic provides a overall summary/snapshot of the first section in Chapter 4 (Modern Construction of Gender Roles). It encompasses how gender roles have been formed within the household (parenting) and in school. Although the content of this comic is far from the general stereotypes of gender roles, it shows how gender roles should be insignificant to ones likes, dislikes, and etc. This makes it relevant in regards to how Garbacik explains how gender roles have been distorted within our society.
